Cervical Softening and Dilation Device for Incomplete Cervical Dilation in Dairy Cattle
A non-invasive, portable device that helps veterinarians treat dystocia in cattle without surgical intervention. Developed in collaboration with ICAR-IVRI Bareilly and incubated at IIT Kanpur.
Dystocia (difficult birth) is a major challenge in dairy farming. When cattle experience prolonged labor with incomplete cervical dilation, farmers face critical decisions that impact both animal welfare and their livelihood.
Current treatments are either expensive surgical interventions or drug therapies with inconsistent results. Delayed or inadequate treatment leads to fetal mortality, maternal toxemia, reduced future fertility, and in severe cases, death of the animal.
With India's dairy sector employing 8.8% of the population and 70% women participation, effective dystocia treatment directly impacts rural livelihoods.
A portable, non-invasive cervical softening and dilation device that combines heat therapy, mechanical stimulation, and intelligent temperature control.
Controlled heat delivery eases muscle tension and pain, promoting natural cervical softening through warm water circulation.
Vibratory stimulation assists cervical dilation naturally, avoiding the need for surgical intervention.
Sterilized silicone rubber inflates to secure grip inside the reproductive tract during voluntary and involuntary contractions.
20+ hours of continuous operation on battery power. Fully portable for field use at remote farm locations.
Veterinarian-set temperature with automatic regulation. External heating element ensures animal safety.
Designed, developed, and manufactured in India. Prototype built at IIT Kanpur's Imagineering Laboratory.
Validated through extensive testing at ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly
*Based on TD-1 testing data. Success rate provided no fetal abnormalities and timely presentation.
