Cervical Softening and Dilation Device

Severe dystocia in dairy cattle is a very recurring ailment caused either by uterine torsion or incomplete cervical dilation ICD . An intervention in cases of ICD known as dilation therapy is required to be performed on the cattle where the dilation of cervix can be achieved in 20 to 72 hours. The invention claimed can help in dilating the cervix using a cylindrical tube covered with a thick silicone sheet. The device causes a heating therapy or fomentation using the hot water running through it. The device also creates a mechanical simulation using a vibration generating mechanism installed inside the device. The device will provide a three-way approach of hot fomentation, mechanical stimulation, and intensive drug therapy causing the softening of the cervix at a faster rate and the subsequent dilation of the cervix lead to live calve births. The device reduces the aggregate cost of such dystocia by reducing the time of delivery as compared to the non-intervention delivery. The device also eliminates any need for caesarian operations as the dilation device enables per-vaginal delivery when the cervix dilates and makes way for the fetus.

Dr. Abhishek Verma is a seasoned Industrial designer, Product Design Researcher, and entrepreneur with a Ph.D. specializing in medical devices and robotics. He holds proficiency in designing and developing medical devices from the initial ideation phase to the creation of a minimum viable product, crafting low fidelity prototypes to overseeing the development of high-quality models via utilizing advanced technologies like 3D printing and electro-mechanical system design. His commitment to pushing boundaries, coupled with his passion for enhancing healthcare through innovation, serves as a testament to his expertise.

Dr. Saumya Singh is a dynamic and creative researcher with her Ph.D. in thermal engineering, exploring innovative methods to enhance heat transfer through experimental and numerical investigations. Her works include designing innovative microchannels, investigating effects of nanoparticles, magnetic fields, and acoustic fields on evaporating thin film regions. Her diverse research interests and technical expertise contribute to advanced engineering applications.
